About
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.
—Anais Nin
I’m Nancy G. Shapiro. Welcome to Common Thread. I’ve chosen the name Common Thread for my coaching practice to convey the unifying aspect of interconnectedness. Identifying and embracing the threads of one’s experience is a powerful link that sustains a person during times of transition and change.
Coaching is a threshold relationship, a threshold being what poet Gregory Orr calls “a place where we are most able to alter our understanding of the world and of our own lives in it.” I am extremely fortunate to be involved in this work at this time, and invite you to experience the personal and professional transformations that can occur within coaching.
The mindful use of language and writing as modalities for change and insight are part of my coaching model, as well as the grounding and supportive facts of brain-based knowledge, including the brain’s innate capability to physiologically change with mindful behavior (neuroplasticity). Conversation, deep listening and discerning questions bring about powerful connections and movement toward inspired actions and choices. Above all, I am in awe of human resiliency in the face of a constantly changing world, and the deep, universal need to find one’s authentic self and purpose on all levels.

“Nancy is an excellent coach. She has an adaptable approach dealing with matters that span the gamut from personal to professional. By the end of our sessions, I felt empowered and capable. I continue to carry the insight from our sessions with me every day.” —Chowning Poppler, law student, California
“This has been the most profound inner work I have ever done, and by far the most effective. Nancy’s keen sense of humor keeps things in perspective when the going gets tough and her crystal clear feedback is invaluable.” —Shelly Ravera, holistic health care provider, Wyoming

I agree very well with the idea of human interconnectedness and transformation through the creative and livegiving use of words. It is great to you emphasized also the importance of “actions”. For when words do not convey the deepest experiences and longings of the human and cannot carry the one who writes and speaks to greater levels of human consciousness and growth, they merely remain as words. But if they can give life both to the writer and the readers, then words become a way to a change of heart, mind and soul towards the highest upliftment of the human person.
